About N12 Treasure Route
The N12 Treasure Route, part of South Africa's N12 National Route, offers a captivating journey through diverse landscapes and historical landmarks. It begins in Emalahleni (Witbank) in Mpumalanga, passing Delmas into Gauteng, through Johannesburg, and Carletonville, skirting Soweto. As it enters the North West Province, it traverses Potchefstroom, near the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site.
From Potchefstroom, the route heads into the City of Matlosana, connecting Klerksdorp, Orkney, Stilfontein, and Hartbeesfontein, before passing through Wolmaransstad, Bloemhof, and Christiana on its way to Kimberley in the Northern Cape.
Beyond Kimberley, the N12 continues through Hopetown, Strydenburg, and Britstown to the historic town of Victoria West. South of Victoria West, at the iconic Three Sisters, it merges with the N1 National Route toward Beaufort West.
The route then heads further south, passing through De Rust and Dysselsdorp, before reaching Oudtshoorn. From there, it crosses the scenic Outeniqua Pass, concluding at George, where it meets the N2 National Route, near the stunning Indian Ocean coastline at Victoria Bay.
